Project: Solar Lantern

Description: The Solar Lantern Project Kit is a hands-on STEAM activity that introduces young builders to the basics of solar energy through playful, creative construction. Designed for ages 5 and up, the project invites kids to build and decorate their own solar-powered lantern—powered by a rechargeable solar tealight that stores energy during the day and glows at night.

As the lead designer, I oversaw a complete redesign of an existing product, simplifying the build process and ensuring that the final lantern was easy to assemble, open, and close—without sacrificing functionality or durability. The new version, Kiwico’s first solar product, gives kids a tangible, age-appropriate introduction to renewable energy and sustainability.
