Give Heart Cells a Beat: Cells to Self, Exploratorium

Project: Cells to Self, Exploratorium

Role: Lead Exhibit Developer

Team: Chris Cerrito, Kristina Yu, Joyce Ma, Samuel Reisman, Juan A Peres-Berjemo, Bruce Conklin

Description: "Give Heart Cells a Beat" is a groundbreaking interactive exhibit that allows visitors to sync their own heartbeats with living stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes. Developed in collaboration with The Exploratorium and Gladstone Institutes, the exhibit uses biosensors and real-time visualization to transform an abstract biological process into a tangible, immersive experience. As visitors place their hands on a sensor, they see—and feel—their heartbeat influencing the rhythm of actual heart cells, offering a powerful, hands-on connection to cutting-edge regenerative medicine and the science of the human heart.
